How to get to Carnuntum

By car

From Vienna

Motorway A4 (towards Budapest/Airport) - exit Fischamend/Bratislava – B9 (main road to Bratislava) to Petronell-Carnuntum or Bad Deutsch-Altenburg (about 35 minutes).

From Wiener Neustadt

Motorway A2 (towards Vienna) – at Vösendorf interchange onto S1 - at Schwechat interchange onto A4 (towards Budapest/Airport) - exit Fischamend/Bratislava – B9 (main road to Bratislava) to Petronell-Carnuntum or Bad Deutsch-Altenburg (about 1 hour).

From Eisenstadt / Neusiedler See

B50 (Burgenland Bundesstr.) in northeasterly direction – onto motorway A4 (towards Vienna) at Neusiedl am See - exit Bruck a.d. Leitha OST towards Bruck - B211 (Rohrrauer Bundesstr.) to Petronell-Carnuntum turn-off or Bad Deutsch-Altenburg (about 50 minutes).

From Bratislava

B9 (Pressburger Bundesstr.) towards Vienna as far as Bad Deutsch-Altenburg or Petronell-Carnuntum (about 30 minutes).

By public transport

From Vienna

Train S7 from Wien-Mitte to Petronell-Carnuntum or Bad Deutsch-Altenburg, departure hourly five minutes before the full hour (arrival in Petronell-Carnuntum after 55 minutes).

At weekends and on public holidays a shuttle bus is available which will take you from Petronell-Carnuntum station to the Open Air Museum, to the Museum Carnuntinum and to the Amphitheatre in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg.

From Eisenstadt / Neusiedler See:

Possible journey:

From Eisenstadt take the local train via Neusiedl/See to Bruck/Leitha; take the local bus from Bruck/Leitha station (Bus 574 with destination Hainburg/Donau) to Petronell-Carnuntum (Hauptplatz).

From Bratislava:

Possible journey:

From Bratislava take the daily buses MHD Nr. 901 from "Nový most" or "Petržalka/Einstenova", get off at Hainburg/Donau station "Pressburger Reichsstraße", then a short walk to the railway station "Ungartor"; take the S7 to Bad Deutsch Altenburg or Petronell.
